Karlee is a stu- dent at Bloomfield Hills Middle School, where she participates on the forensics team as well as in student leadership. She plays tennis, travel soccer with the Bloomfield Force and particularly loves water-skiing and barefooting. Karlee's most meaningful mitzvah project was collecting and distributing kosher food at Yad Ezra in Berkley. Joshua David Phillips, son of Deborah and Alan Phillips and broth- er of Daniel, will celebrate his bar mitzvah Saturday, Nov. 16, at Temple Israel. Proud grandparents are Jacqueline and Manuel Ferrell and Esther and Stanley Phillips. Joshua is a seventh-grade honor stu- dent at Walnut Creek Middle School in Walled Lake. His after-school activ- ities include warhammer video games and basketball. He loves learning and speaking French. Building a sukkah at a JARC home was his most meaning- ful mitzvah project. Samuel Ethan Plotkin will be called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday, Nov. 16, at Temple Emanu- El. He is the son of Mary and Lowell Plotkin and broth- er of Hannah. Sharing in the joy are his grandpar- ents Elaine Plotkin and Lawrence and Violet Libby. His also the grandson of the late and beloved Bernard Plotkin. Sam is an eighth-grade honor stu- dent at Norup Middle School in Oak Park, where he plays trumpet in both the school and jazz bands and is on the basketball team. He enjoys snow- boarding, golf and soccer. His other interests include music, movies and summers at Tamarack Camps. For his mitzvah project, Sam volunteered for the past two summers as a camp aide in the Huntington Woods day camp program.
