Mass Grave Found
Near Belarus Town

FALL OPTION PAC

2003 Fall Edition

Moscow/JTA — Authorities in the
former Soviet republic of Belarus dis-
covered a mass grave with the
remains of up to 12,000 people killed
during World War II.
Residents of the town of Slutsk, which
is located some 60 miles from the capital
of Minsk, discovered the grave.
Between 1942 and 1944, they told
officials, Nazi troops executed and
buried Jews from Slutsk and prisoners
from a nearby concentration camp at
the site.

U.S. Defends
Targeted Killings

Washington/JTA — The U.S. State
Department stood firm in its opposi-
tion to Israel's targeted killing of ter-
rorists, even after the United States
took a similar action in Yemen.
"Our policy on targeted killings in
the Israeli-Palestinian context has not
changed," department spokesman
Richard Boucher said. "If you look
back at what we have said about tar-
geted killings in the Israeli-
Palestinian context, you will find
that the reasons we have given do
not necessarily apply in other cir-
cumstances." A day earlier in Yemen,
a missile fired by a CIA drone plane
killed six Al Qaida terrorists.
