moved to Hollywood and found work
in film and television. His best-known
movie assignment is the score for The
Longest Journey.
"While working in California, I met
the dancer Alexander Godunov, who
defected from the Soviet Union in
1979," Talmi recalls about his entry into
promoting Ru s sian stars. "I became his
producer because of my classical back-
ground and planned his national tour
and a TV program. His last live per-
formance was at Detroit's Music Hall."
Talmi also has produced the
International Glasnost Festival, a 54-
city ballet tour; the Ukraine Goodwill
Tour, an air show; Cynthia Gregory's
Celebration Tour, an anti-drug promo-
tional tour; and many other commer-
cial ventures.
Over the years, Talmi's overriding
personal commitment has gained the
support of the Moscow company.
After learning about and using a pro-
gram that helped his son overcome
dyslexia, he now has become its advo-
cate and communicates the method at
www.dyslexia.org, a link found-on the
dance troupe's Web site at wwvv.nut-
cracker.com .
Talmi's next professional venture is a
new production of A Christmas Caroh
which will tour the United States in
2003. He wrote the music, and his
wife, Mary, whom he met at Juilliard,
will do the choreography.
Laura Lee is once again writing the
libretto. Although her family is not
Jewish, her father, still living in
Michigan, took an interest in the anti-
Semitism of Henry Ford and wrote a
book called Henry Ford and the Jews.
"In a private way, I'm making the
performance at the Fox Theatre in
honor of my father and his family
because he didn't get back to see
Detroit before he passed away this year
at age 93," Talmi says.
"My father went to Wayne State
University and joined the Labor
Zionist movement during the
Depression. He left the city and
moved to Boston, where he became
the president of the New England
Labor Zionist movement before immi-
grating to Israel.
"I continue to be active with organi-
zations connected to peace in Israel,"
Talmi says. Li
