Adat Shalom Focus: Statehood History Rabbi Daniel Nevins will devote three evening community lectures to the great leaders and movements that paved the way toward Israeli statehood in 1948. The programs are planned for 8 p.m. Wednesdays, Nov. 6, 13 and 20 at Adat Shalom Synagogue. The discussions will move from the medieval poet of Zion, Rabbi Yehudah. HaLevi, to the cultural and political manifestations of late 19th century Zionism, to Herzl, Achad Ha-Am and others, and the immigration that trans- formed the Yishuv into an industrious and hardy autonomous community. On Nov. 6, Rabbi Nevins will discuss "The Waves of Immigration (1882- 1948)." The following week he will explain "The Origins of the Arab-Israel Conflict." Conference chair for the second consecutive year is Dina Shtull-Leber, principal of Hebrew Day School in Ann Arbor and director of the Judaic pro- gram at Tamarack Camps. The conference welcomes all nation- al, regional and local youth directors and advisers, camp directors and staff, Israel program coordinators and recruiters, Jewish educators, synagogue family edu- cators, campus professionals and others serving Jewish youth.
