Exceptional Senior Living means an exceptional lifestyle are uninsured and underinsured." Another issue of concern for him is the quality of the Great Lakes, which make up 20 percent of the world's freshwater supply. "The [Gov. John] Engler adminis- tration has turned over our govern- ment to the polluters. Our incredible resource is going to be compromised," he said, adding that he would like to see more initiatives for waste reduction as well. Sanford, Meisner's Republican opponent in the race, said he entered the race in the traditionally Democratic area because he wanted to stand up against those "who support special rights for homosexuals, those who support the abortion agenda, those who oppose our right to keep and bear arms. I could not allow them to run unopposed." Sanford's platform includes ideas to reduce damage to roads by enforcing truck-weight limits and increasing expenditure on the National Guard to aid in the enforcement of border issues, implying that Canada's immi- gration laws are too lax and allow a potential portal for terrorists. "I would go so far as to say that [immigration laws] are a joke in Canada," he said. On education, Sanford is adamant on protecting Proposal A, a law that was approved by residents that, in part, provides funding for education but protects property taxes. He said that per-pupil spending is too high as it is. "This was approved by the voters as a property tax stop for seniors. [Tinkering with the law] is absolute nonsense," he said. ❑ `Lily's Crossing' At Oak Park JCC Tickets are available for the presenta- tion of Lily's Crossing, the ArtsPower National Touring Theatre's play based on the Newberry Honor Book by Patricia Reilly Giff.
