Agency Sets Lecture Series The Agency for Jewish Education of Metropolitan Detroit will sponsor a series of lectures by Rabbi David Lazar as part of the Conservative movement and Jewish Theological Seminary scholar-in- residence program. Rabbi Lazar is found- ing director of RIKMA, a Spiritual Community Leadership Training in Israel. The series, titled "How Men Created Women," is being offered for three ses- sions 1 2: 1 0 1 :30 p.m. Wednesdays, Oct. 30, Nov. 6 and 13 and 7:30-9 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 31, Nov. 7 and 14. The first week, Rabbi Lazar will discuss Genesis, chapters 1 and 2, and the two different ways of defining gender. The second week, he will dis- cuss Midrash from the time of the Talmud and the wisdom of Greece and street smarts as they come togeth- er to solve problems in interpreting the Bible. The third week, medieval folklore and the missing link between third century B.C.E. Sumarian culture and Jewish feminism of the 20th cen- tury will be explored. Each week's session is designed to be self-contained and may be attended inde- pendently. The same material will be pre- sented both day and evening. The after- noon class is offered as a lunch-and-learn; participants are invited to bring a lunch. Beverages will be provided. All sessions will be at the Max M. Fisher Federation Building in Bloomfield Township and are open free to the community.
