Evan Bushman, an eighth-grade
honor student at Walled Lake Middle
school, was a grand prize winner at
the 45th annual Science and
Engineering Fair of Metropolitan
Detroit. Evan's project was in the field
of physics and focused on the ascent
and descent angles of a roller coaster,
one of hiS favorite rides.

Jonathan Haber of Huntington
Woods was re-elected assistant treas-

urer of the Old Newsboys'
Goodfellow Fund of Detroit. Haber,
a past president of the organization,
has been a member for 31 years and
serves as chair of the organization's
nominating committee. He is a CPA,
retired as a partner after 30 years
with Ernst & Young.

Marsha Goldsmith Kamin., executive
director of Jewish Apartments and
Services, was honored at the
Association of Jewish Aging Services
convention in New York City. She
received the Award of Honor, the
highest honor for a professional in
the field of Jewish elder care.

Dr. Shelley Goldberg, a member of
the faculty of Hillel Day School of
Metropolitan Detroit in Farmington
Hills, was a featured speaker at the
annual meeting of the North Central
Association Commission on
Accreditation and School
Improvement in Chicago. Dr.
Goldberg's presentation was titled
"Lettuce Enjoy Lunch and Squash
Bad Manners." The theme was to
teach educators that lunchtime could
be a perfect opportunity to teach
social skills and develop a positive
eating environment. At Hillel, Dr.
Goldberg teaches creative and critic-Al
thinking to students in K-3 and lan-
guage arts enrichment to students in
grades 1 and 2.

Ronald M. Horwitz of Farmington
Hills, professor of finance at
Oakland. University in Rochester
Hills, is being honored by a group
of former students who have raised
funds to endow a student award in
the professor's name to mark his
retirement. With matching gifts,
$30,000 has been raised. Horwitz
taught for 24 years, was a former
dean of the School of Business
Administration and served as acting
vice president for academic affairs.

Melissa Kaplan-Estrin of
Huntington Woods has earned the
Selma Fraiberg Award from the
Michigan-Association of Infant
Mental Health. Dr. Kaplan-Estrin
has been an associate professor in
the department of psychology at
Wayne State University in Detroit
since 1980. She also earned WSU's
College of Science Teaching Award

and the President's Award for
Excellence in Teaching.
