Volunteers Aid
Older Adults

The Jewish Community Chaplaincy
Program, which provides religious, cul-
tural and spiritual support to frail
Jewish older adults living in care facili-
ties, and the Jewish Home and Aging
Services Guardianship program are
offering a series of volunteers training
sessions. Members of the community
who are volunteering or want to volun-
teer with older adults in care facilities
are encouraged to attend.
The next session will be 7-9 p.m.
Tues6y, Oct. 15, at the Fleischman
Residence in West Bloomfield. The
topic will be "The Needs of Care
Facility Residents." Ways of dealing
with the physical, social and spiritual
needs of older adults will be discussed.
Speakers will include Dr. Ruth Lerman,
geriatrician; Rabbi Avie Shapiro, JHAS
religious services consultant; and Gail
Greenberg, Jewish Experiences For
Families program coordinator for the
Agency for Jewish Education and a •
music therapist. The session is free of
charge.

JCC To Host
Regional Forum

The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit will host the
Central Regional Conference of the
Association of Jewish Center
Professionals Dec. 8-10 at the JCC in
West Bloomfield.
The theme of the conferenCe is
"Embracing Our Community:
Connecting Through Outreach."
Participating JCC's include Ann Arbor
and Flint; Akron, Canton, Cincinnati,
Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo
and Youngstown, Ohio; Indianapolis,
Ind.; Louisville,. Ky.; Altoona and
Pittsburgh, Pa.
The conference schedule includes a
keynote speech by Steven M. Cohen, a
sociologist of American Jewry and pro-
fessor at the Melton Center for Jewish
Education at Hebrew University in
Jerusalem. There will be Jewish learning
sessions, workshops related to the theme
and kindred groups for JCC staff to
share ideas. A social event at Cranbrook
Educational Community in Bloomfield
Hills is planned.
Cost of the conference is $195 for
AJCP members and $220 for non-
