Spearheaded by the American Jewish Committee's Task Force on Anti- Semitism, the statement was created in response to campus activism on the Middle East that in some cases has veered into overt anti-Semitism. The letter was initiated by James Freedman, former president of Dartmouth College and chair of the AJCommittee's Domestic Policy Commission.
