are taking the wonderful mitzvah of
the sukkah to those who otherwise
wouldn't be able to enjoy it."
While the Detroit-area's sukkah
mobiles can be seen traveling about
town throughout the holiday, begin-
ning this year on Friday, Sept. 20,
"Operation Sukkot" is making certain
the mobile sukkot are also on the
roads in Israel.
Every year, Rabbi Yitzchak Cohen
brings some of the joy of the holiday
to thousands of soldiers serving on the
front lines of Gush Etzion in the West
Bank.
Rabbi Cohen, a Chabad shaliach
(emissary) and executive director of
Beit Chabad Alon Shevut and Karmay
Tzur, begins his Sukkot preparations
months before the holiday.
"There are thousands of soldiers from
all over the country serving in the Gush
Etzion region and we want to reach out
to all of them and remind them that
they are not forgotten," says Rabbi
Cohen, known in Israel as Rav Yitzchak.

In The Sukkah

"Being in the sukkah is the only mitz-
vah in Judaism where a person's entire
body and clothing are totally envel-oped
in the mitzvah," says Rabbi Elimelech
Silberberg of Sara Tugman Bais Chabad
Torah Center in West Bloomfield.
"Taking a sukkah mobile to those
who would not be able to observe the
mitzvah is allowing them a tremen-
dous opportunity to make a blessing
in the Slikkah and.shake the lulav
[palm, willoW and myrtle branches]
and esrog [citron]." They comprise the
four species used on the holiday. ❑
