He is the son of Marie and John Frank and the brother of Alexis and Benjamin. His proud grandparents are Benjamin Frank and Ethel Scrase. Nicholas attends Bloomfield Hills Middle School. Skateboarding, snowboarding, skim- boarding and BMXing are sports he enjoys. He also has been cartooning for many years. His most meaningful mitz- vah project involved packaging and delivering meals on wheels to seniors. Jessica Nicole Gilbert, daughter of Ilene and Steve Gilbert, will cele- brate her bat mitz- vah on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Temple Israel. She is the sister of Sam. Her grandparents are Jo and Dr. Daniel Gilbert, Marion Littman the late Samuel Litt. She is also the great- granddaughter of the late Rose Borman. An eighth-grader at Walled Lake Middle School, Jessica loves music, tennis, art and ice skating. She made dolls at Hadassah House in West Bloomfield for children in hospitals, involving friends in this endeavor. Matthew Scott Goodman will be called to the Torah on the occasion of his bar mitzvah during Havdalah services. at Temple Israel on Saturday, Septa 21. He is the son of Leslie and Andrea Laker Goodman and Sondra and Peter Stuart and brother of Brandi, Josh, Zack and Alex. Grandparents Mae and Milton Goodman, Janet and Jerry Liebow and Beverly and Iry Laker will share in the simchah. His great-grand- parents are Lillian and Art Fisher. Matthew attends Abbott Middle School in-West Bloomfield, where he is active in theater and basketball. He also enjoys snowboarding and golf. His most meaningful mitzvah project was volunteering at Yad Ezra in Berkley. Andrew Seth Lapin will be called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Temple Emanu-El. He is the son of Glenn and Natalie Lapin, older brother of Michelle and grandson of Geraldine Finegold. Andrew is also the grandson of the late Morris and Doris Lapin and the late Louis Finegold. An eighth-grade honor student at Norup Middle School in Oak Park, where he plays trombone in the school band and jazz band, Andrew is also a member of the Kidz Klez Band of Michigan, an avid reader and writer and he enjoys computers, movies, playing the piano and bicycling. He volunteered at Temple Emanu-El's library, at Yad Ezra in Berkley and at the Huntington Woods Recreation Department's leader- in-training program. Andrew also assist- ed with students who are physically dis- abled at Marshall Middle School in Westland. Barak Dean Lebovitz, son of Karolyn and Arie Lebovitz, will celebrate his bar mitzvah on Friday, Sept. 20, at Temple Israel. He is the brother of Anthony, Jay, Andrew and Scott. Barak attends Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit in Farmington Hills. He enjoys soccer and dance. His most meaningful mitzvah project was sponsoring two Israeli children, enabling them to attend Tamarack Camps for three weeks, which has led to an ongoing friendship. He also participated in the planting of a time capsule for Michigan House in Ashkelon, Israel. Ian Alexander Monast, son of Carol and Keith Monast and brother of Danielle, will become a bar mitz- vah at Temple Israel on Saturday, Sept.. 21. His grandparents Frances and Charles Tesserarid Sylvia and Sam Monast will share in the simchah. Ian is an honor student at Clifford Smart Middle School in Walled Lake.
