BY LYNNE SCHREIBER PHOTOGRAPItY BY ANGIE BA Rebecca Starks Age: 14 Parents: Neal and Gail Starks City: Huntington Woods School: Jewish Academy of Metro Detroit — starting ninth grade, after finishing at Norup Middle School. "I decided to come to the Jewish Academy because I was looking for a place where I could get the kind of individual attention that a small school provides with a strong religious com- ponent. I had heard a lot about the school from my friends who go there cur- rently — a lot of good things." What will you be wear- ing the first day? "It depends what the weath- er's like — probably my normal attire: I'm a big fan of blue jeans, and I'll prob- ably wear a novelty T-shirt, with cute little sayings on it. My Baby G watch, my ring with my birthstone in it, my Tiffany bracelet and necklace, my Hot Kiss san- dals. I'll probably wear my hair down." What are your feelings about starting school? "I'm really excited, and I'm a little nervous about how the block scheduling will work out. I'm looking forward to starting a new curriculum, learning new things. I'm really excited about having a big locker. Favorite subject: "English — I love to read and I love to write." What do you like best about school? "I've always been really anxious to learn new things and just be with people. I've made lifelong friends being at school." STYLE AT THE JN • SEPTEMBER 2002 • 1 1
