PUBLIC EDUCATION:

Contact your local school district office (the
number can be found in your telephone
directory or by calling directory assistance) for
information on enrolling your children in
public school.
English as a Second Language classes are
offered at many schools.
Special education services, which include
evaluation and testing, speech and language
therapy, physical and occupational therapy, and
specialized classrooms and programs are
available to students who qualify from birth
through 26 years old. Contact the Special
Services Department of your local school
district.
Adult/Community Education: Most
school districts offer a variety of programs
for children and adults through their
Community Education departments.

Shalom Detroit, a program of
Federation's Women's Campaign

Young Adult Newcomers: A separate
program to welcome young adults
(approximately 21-35 years old), both single
and married, exists through the Young Adult
Division of the Jewish Federation of

provides a wide variety of services including
free immunizations and health screenings;
marriage licenses; birth and death certificates;
services for people with developmental
