PH, ANN, RACHEL & SARA ZUCKMAN Jewish Academy Sets Open House The Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit will host an open house for prospective students and their families at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. The day high school begins its third year with 110 stu- dents, representing a 25 percent increase in enrollment. Staff reten- tion is at 100 percent. JAMD students come from all three major denominations and from families not affiliated with a synagogue. Twenty-five percent of the students are graduates of a public or private secular school. Others are graduates of Jewish day schools. JAMD also has its first boarder, a student from suburban Buffalo, N.Y., who will live with a local family. JAMD is accepting applications for the 2003-2004 academic year. Financial aid is available to qualifying families. A recent endowment gift of $20 million assures "JA/vID's con- tinuing presence as an outstanding educational institution in this community," said Rabbi Lee Buckman, head of school. "Disbursement of funds is conditioned on challenging, but attainable goals and is expected to begin in approximately three years." Teens and their families are invited to attend the fall open house.
