Landlubbers in the group enjoyed nature walks, exercise, discussion groups, meditation, tennis, miniature golf, ping- pong and bingo. The July 29-31 pro- gram held at the Butzel Conference Center in Ortonville brought JAS staff and 20 residents of the Harriett and Ben Teitel and Anna and Meyer Prentis Jewish Apartments in Oak Park and the Lillian and Samuel Hechtman and Norma Jean and Edward Meer Jewish Apartments in West Bloomfield for an overnight stay. JAS board members, including Edythe Jackier, who sponsored the event, joined 27 more residents for a daylong visit; a group from nearby Tamarack Camps stopped by to lead a session in making beaded bracelets and necklaces. "The musical duo, Larry Bassin and Joe Greenfield of Klezmer Tsvai, enter- tained and the residents enjoyed danc- ing to their wonderful music," says Esther Winer, JAS community out- reach coordinator, who was part of the sleepover group. "S'mores were enjoyed and everyone gained weight from the delicious food served." ❑ For information on sponsoring a senior to participate in the JAS Butzel Camp Experience, call Esther Winer at (248) 592-1104.
