etroit Jewry has much to be proud of this Rosh .
Hashanah.
Though 11th in population nationwide, the Detroit
Jewish community serves as a model for fund-raising, program-
ming and services. From attacking hunger, to providing senior
services to standing with Israel, we've come together repeatedly
to support needs and causes in which we believe.
Jewish communities from around the country look to us for
counsel on creating learning opportunities at all age levels. And
our deep historical roots as a community going back more
than 150 years help give us a rich sense of local heritage and
identity.
We're not without significant concerns.
And a key one is the state of Federation's 2003 Annual
Campaign, given the economic downturn, increased local
needs and stronger resolve to support Israel, our beloved home-
land, in the wake of the 23-month-old Palestinian uprising.
We've got the will, the know-how and, perhaps most impor-
tantly, the desire to work together, thOugh. So I'm hope-filled.
May 5763 be a good and sweet year.
Eshanah tovah tikateivu v'techataymu. May you and yours be
inscribed and sealed in the Book of Life this Rosh Hashanah.
And Shabbat shalom!
