Canned Competition

Gleaners Community Food Bank and
the Detroit Tigers recently presented
Canstruction 2002, .a hunger awareness
event at Comerica Park. Local architects,
designers, engineers and contractors par-
ticipated in the competition to raise
funds and awareness about hunger in
southeastern Michigan.
Joel Smith and Ross Kaplan of
Neumann Smith & Associates, an archi-
tectural firm in Southfield, created the
English "D" logo of the Detroit Tigers
with cans. According to Rick
Loewenstein, president of Gleaners, the
event focused on the issues surrounding
hunger and how everyone can become
involved in finding creative solutions.
