Palestinians
Ban Photos

Gaza/JTA — The Palestinian press
association banned journalists from
taking photos of Palestinian children
holding weapons because such photos
harm the Palestinian cause.
The Foreign Press Association called on
the Palestinian Journalist Syndicate to
withdraw the statement, saying it limited
press freedom. Children carrying
weapons or dressed up as suicide bombers
have frequently been photographed at ral-
lies and marches during the past two
years of Israeli-Palestinian violence.

Former Senator
Named To Council

Washington/JTA — A former U.S.
senator was appointed to the council
overseeing the United States
Holocaust Memorial Museum.
Rudy Boschwitz served as the
Republican senator from Minnesota
for 12 years. Boschwitz, a Jew who was
born in Berlin, left Germany in 1933
when Hitler came to power and emi-
grated to the United States.

Man Who Aided
Wallenberg Dies

Budapest/JTA — Per Anger, who
helped Raoul Wallenberg save
Hungarian Jews during World War II,
died Monday at 89.
Anger and Wallenberg, Swedish
diplomats stationed in Hungary, hand-
ed out passes that eventually allowed
more than 30,000 Hungarian Jews to
survive. In 1983, the Yad Vashem
Holocaust Memorial named Anger a
Righteous Gentile for his efforts.

Lithuania Lubavitch
Receive Torah Gift

Vilnius/JTA — The Chabad commu-
nity in Vilnius led a procession
through the center of town celebrating
the donation of a Torah.
The scroll, worth about $30,000, was
a gift of the Safra Foundation. After a
brief ceremony in the Lithuanian capital
attended by a dozen diplomats and
Lithuanian officials, more than 100 Jews
carrying balloons and torches marched
through town. The Torah will be kept at
the Chabad Day School.
