Shir Shalom Wins Softball Title Temple Shir Shalom defeated defending champion Young Israel of Southfield 21- 19 on Aug. 18 to reclaim the Intercongregational Softball League championship. The two teams have faced each other in the championship game six consecutive years and each has won three times. A seven-run fifth inning proved to be the difference for Shir Shalom this year, which had to overcome injuries during the game. Mike Cooper had a cut on his leg, Ryan Schneider and David Margolin pulled hamstring muscles, and Danny Lippitt twisted his ankle. Norm Lynn, who broke his collarbone the previous week against Temple Israel, was used as a pinchhitter. Other members of the Shir Shalom team were Bob Tarnow, Howard Wintman, David Blum, Craig Efrusy, Brian Efrusy, Gary Grossman, Howard Rosner, Mort Meisner and Eric Mintz. Other league teams include Congregations B'nai Moshe and Shaarey Zedek and Adat Shalom Synagogue.
