While just about everyone knows how Hillel responded: "What is hateful to you, do not do unto your neighbor," when asked by a heathen to "teach me entire Torah while standing on one foot," here is a story you may not know about Hillel. A poor man was in need of a horse. Hillel not only found a horse for him to ride, but secured a ser- vant who would accompany the man. When, one day, the servant did not appear for work, Hillel himself took the servant's place. #11) Most Jews are familiar with the name of Rashi, also known as Rabbi Solomon ben Isaac, whom most regard the greatest Jewish commenta- tor on the Torah and Talmud. But do you know what Rashi (c. 1030-1105) did for a living?
