C o mmunity Kadima Plans Parlor Meeting Southfield-based Kadima is holding its 2002 parlor meeting 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the home of Ann and Norman Katz in Bloomfield Hills. Co-chairs for the evening are Bluma and Robert Schechter. A $500 mini- mum donation per person includes tick- ets to Kadima's "Music with Mandy" benefit 7 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Music Hall, featuring Mandy Patinkin. Kadima is a nonprofit, non-sectarian mental health agency that offers residen- tial, counseling and supported employ- ment services to adults with psychiatric disabilities. IRP To Hear IDF Supporter Joshua Berkovitz, the president of Michigan Chapter, Friends of the Israel Defense Forces, will be the speaker at the Institute for Retired Professionals' lunch-and-learn at 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22 at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield. His topic will be "The Israel Defense Forces: Challenges of Today and the Jewish Future." The son of Holocaust survivors, Berkovitz was born and raised in Israel. He served in the IDF 1968-1971 and in the reserves 1971-1987. He participated in the Yom Kippur War on the Suez Canal front. Berkovitz pursued an engineering degree from Philadelphia College of Science and has lived in Michigan with his wife and two children since 1987.
