Dr. Mark Rottenberg of West
Bloomfield chose the perfect time to
hit the first hole-in-one of his seven-
year golf career.
The 18-handicap golfer, who only
became serious about the sport three
years ago, fired his ace on July 15 at
the "First Ever Kadima Golf Classic"

Farmington Hills. His effort earned
him a 2002 Saab convertible, donat-
ed by Glassman Oldsmobile-Saab in
Southfield.
Dr. Rottenberg scored his hole-in-
one on Franklin Hills' 14th hole. It's
a long par 3, "a beautiful setting,
and the silver convertible was behind
the green, with the [Franklin Hills]
clubhouse in the distance," Dr.
Rottenberg said.
Because of the layout of the hole,
Dr. Rottenberg could watch from
the tee as his shot rolled in. It was
also witnessed by the rest of his
foursome — Dr. Bruce Gersky, Stan
Bershad and Dr. Howard Wright —
and by Kadima officials and players
on the next tee.
"I just stood there while everyone
else was jumping around. I couldn't
believe it," he said. Glassman owner
George Glassman, a friend of Dr.
Rottenberg, said it was the first time
in 25 years of offering cars at golf
benefits that anyone had won one
with a hole-in-one.
Dr. Rottenberg said that with two
children in college, he had been
driving a 10-year-old car with
90,000 miles on it. Not anymore.
Kadima, a non-profit, non-sectari-
an mental health agency, had 160
attendees at its first golf fund-raiser.
The event raised $70,000 for
Kadima's mental health drop-in cen-
ter.
