Sponsored by the Jewish National Fund, the caravan consists of Israeli teenagers, members of the Israel Scouts, chosen for their talent and enthusiasm. The program has been in exis- tence for 30 years. This year, there are two caravans, one touring America's northern states and the other traveling through the South. Each consists of 10 scouts and two adults, who present a choreographed program of Hebrew and English songs ranging from "Jerusalem the Gold" to the Beatles' "Let It Be." The young people also tell personal stories of life in Israel and interact with audience members. Last year, the caravan appeared on 12 differ- ent television shows and performed live for 90,000 viewers. "This is a great way for Israeli youth to con- nect - with Americans and vice versa," said Shoshana Cardin, JNF Vice President for Education. "It is especially important during this critical time in Israel's history for us to show the scouts our support and friendship." — Diana Lieberman The Friendship Caravan performs 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, at Temple Israel's out- door alternative services; 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Corinthian Baptist Church in Hamtramck; 2 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Katz Outdoor Pool and Plaza of the West Bloomfield Jewish Community Center for JCC members only; and 7:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at Charlotte Rothstein Park in Oak Park, open to the public at no charge. On Monday, Aug. 12, the teens will per- form 1:30 p.m. at the Fleischman Residence in West Bloomfield and 7 p.m. at the Washtenaw County Jewish Community Center in Ann Arbor. The Ann Arbor performance is preceded at 6 p.m. by a barbeque; it's free for mem- bers of the Washtenaw County JCC camp and their families and $3 per person, to a maximum of $10 per family, for others.
