Local Educator
Heads Up Study

Community educator Ruth Bergman
will lead an Elul study session, "Writing
Ourselves into the Book of Life: Shofar
and Self-Improvement on Rosh
Hashanah," on Sunday, Aug. 11, as part
of Eilu Eilu's study series for women,
"Kedushat HaHodesh: Sanctifying the
New Month."
The series meets from 10-11:30 a.m.
on the first Sunday morning of each
new month on the Jewish calendar. The
Aug. 11 session will welcome the new
month of Elul 5762 and launch Eilu v'
Eilu's annual Elul learning series,
designed to help adult learners through-
out the Jewish community prepare spiri-
tually for the upcoming Days of Awe.
Bergman's Aug. 11 shiur will ask,
"Whose voice is the voice of the shofar?"
Kedushat HaHodesh meets in the
library of the Applebaum Parenting
Center of Congregation Shaarey Zedek
West Bloomfield, B'nai Israel Center,
4200 Walnut Lake Road. There is no
charge, although contributions are wel-
come. No knowledge of Hebrew is
required. This is a drop-in-and-learn
series, with no reservations required.
Women of all ages, from all segments of
the Detroit Jewish community, are regu-
lar participants in Kedushat HaHodesh.
All are welcome.
The Aug. 11 session will open with
prayers and songs led by Janis Braun-
Levine, a song leader and musician and
member of the High Holiday choir at
Adat Shalom Synagogue. The study ses-
sion with Ruth Bergman will begin at
about 10:45 a.m. and conclude around
11:30 a.m.
For information, call Eilu v' Eilu, the
Conservative movement-sponsored
informal learning network, (248) 593-
