Brandeis Award. The presenta- tion will high- light the ZOA's 69th Balfour Celebration con- cert Sunday, Dr. Norman and Oct. 20, at the Harriet Rotter Millennium Theater Center in Southfield. Dr. Rotter serves on the Federation's Maimonides Society Campaign Division. Mrs. Rotter serves on the Federation mission's committee and is a member of the Lion of Judah Division. She is a lifetime member of Hadassah. They both served as chairs of the tribute committee honoring Rabbi Daniel B. Syme. Food & Thought Yaron Cohen resides in Tel Aviv and has been a student at Bar-llan University since 1996, completing his B.Sc. in chemistry with honors in 1999, and currently enrolled as a chemistry Ph.D. fellow, working on his dissertation and teaching. Yaron did his military service as a combat medic in the Israeli Defense Forces' Goland Brigade; his reserve unit saw extensive action in the West Bank town of Jenin during Israel's Operation Defensive Shield. Store. wwwjewish.com 7/12 2002 48 Community The Israeli Scout Friendship Caravan will bring a message of peace and friendship to Detroit on Sunday, Aug. 11. The 10-member troup of Israeli Boy and Girl Scouts will dance and sing at 2 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center outdoor pool plaza in West Bloomfield. The per- formance is open only to JCC mem- bers. At 7:30 p.m. that day, the Scouts will give a free public performance at Charlotte Rothstein Park, located behind the JCC in Oak Park. The JCC's JPM building will be the scene for an Israeli shuk (marketplace) Aug. 11-13, when Israeli art will be on display and available for purchase. The shuk will be held in cooperation with the American Jewish Committee. The Israeli Scouts, age 16-17, are among 100 teens who will travel to the U.S. and Canada this summer to represent Israel. They will perform at camps, public gatherings, schools, community centers, hospitals and nursing homes.
