ACTON RENTAL & SALES
LARRY ARONOFF
Samona, 16, of West Bloomfield.
But by the fifth day, the lunch break
was completely integrated, including a
group of Mormon missionaries who
joined the effort for the last two days.
"We got kids from BBYO and Shir
Shalom and employees from DTE
Energy," said Alan Ellias, Temple Israel's
programming coordinator. "We brought
a lot of different people together and
made a lot of headway this week."
The group successfully pulled off the
garage roof and removed most of the
debris from the site. Unfortunately, the
cinder block walls were too damaged
from a year of neglect and vandalism
and had to be torn down as well. George
still intends to build the hardware store
when the proper funds can be raised.
Everyone in the group expressed their
satisfaction with a job well done as
things wrapped up on Friday.
"You know it's a good program when
you're completely wiped out at the end,"
said Jacob Leemaster, 16, of Franklin.
"Some people think Jews and
Chaldeans hate each other," said Nena
Avraha, 17, of Farmington Hills. "I
think we are very alike, and a program
like this lets us show how much we have
to gain from workinab together." ❑
