Entertainment, Schwartz joined a jour-
nalism team covering Yugoslavia dur-
ing hostilities there 10 years ago, when
he dodged some bullets and was arrest-
ed after being mistaken for a terrorist.
Back in the United States, the TV
personality hosted a sports entertain-
ment radio show in Los Angeles and
served as the lead NFL correspondent
for Prime Sports Press Box, now known
as Fox Sports News.
During four years as a correspondent
on Extra, he jumped out of an air-
plane, was hit with pepper spray, scaled
a 180-foot redwood tree for an inter-
view and covered events in Michigan.
"I did a story on Vladimir
Konstantinov, the Red Wing who was
severely injured in an accident," recalls
Schwartz, who also traveled to the area
to report on Domino's Farms.
"I became very close friends with
the Konstantinov family, and they've
come to California and stayed with
My family. We've spent a lot of time
together."

Family is very important to Schwartz,
who is married and has a daughter in
Jewish day school. He has helped his
parents raise millions of dollars for Israel.
"My family has been very involved
with the Hebrew University, and I've
been to Israel numerous times,"
Schwartz says. "When my mother told
me she was a cousin of Menachem
Begin's wife, I didn't believe her. But I
believed her when we were sitting in
Begin's house holding his Nobel Prize
and clowning around with him."
Schwartz, who grew up in Beverly
Hills as the son of an internist, lived
across the street from Gene Kelly and
down the block from Carl Reiner. The
neighborhood tempted his interest in
entertainment.
"Although my mother and her moth-
er escaped the Holocaust, my grandfa-
ther was killed, and that has taught me
to live every day to the fullest," says
Schwartz, just selected to be a producer
for a show still under wraps.
"There's something people can do
every day to be productive and feel
productive, because who knows when
it all can be taken away? With some of
the stunts I've done, I understand how
it can be taken away quickly." LI
