They are poles apart. "The main thing we try to do is find an original approach to whatever song we are writing. Being different just to be different is plain foolish- ness. Anything that takes away from the emotion we are trying to express, we discard. "My earliest memory is sitting on the floor listening to the radio when the United Nations voted to partition [Palestine] for Israeli statehood," she recalls. "I went to Israel last December with six other American artists in a program that paired us with Israeli artists. All of our work was presented to a govern- ment hospital." The wallcloth completed for the hospital has an outdoor scene and is directed at the various ethnic groups that are treated there. She planned a river of red in the center of her image to symbolize that bloodshed leads nowhere.
