tudents taking the Michigan Jewish Institute's
"Exploring the Holocaust" course showed up
to class recently with their pens, their note-
books — and their parents.
The group of teens typically views films and discusses
issues surrounding the Holocaust, but the May 9 pro-
gram with their parents at the Bloomfield Hills Public
Library included several guest speakers: George
Laksberger of West Bloomfield, who is a Holocaust
survivor; Dr. Charles Silow of Huntington Woods,
president of CHAIM (Children of Holocaust Survivors
Association in Michigan); and Don Cohen of West
Bloomfield, a consultant specializing in Jewish issues
and Israel advocacy.
Oak Park-based MJI's weekly evening program for
teens is offered for high school or college credit. Co-
sponsors are the Agency for Jewish Education and
National Conference of Synagogue Youth.
