Detroit
Dr. Schwarz sees himself as being
quite supportive of the city of
Detroit.
"Detroit has a fixed revenue-sharing
rate, which is $333 million a year, and
I supported fixing that rate so they
didn't take a cut when revenue-shar-
ing formulas were changed," he said.
Health Care
Accessible, affordable and quality
health care is needed, he said, and as
governor, he would work for health
care resources to be
available to all.
Outlining The Issues
Dag Care, Overnight Care Er Salon
Animal Friendly Environment
e may be lesser known than
hi_Loponents in the
MMigan governor's race,
but State Sen. Joe Schwarz
has the credentials to put him on an
equal footing.
Dr. Schwarz was mayor of Battle
Creek, and became a state senator in
1986. He also, has served as the presi-
dent pro-tem of the Senate since
1993, and has continued to practice
his medical specialty of otolaryngology
(ears, nose and throat) since 1974.
In a phone conversation with the
Jewish News, the Republican candidate
talked about why he should be elected
to Michigan's highest office.

Economic Policy
Dr. Schwarz supports an economic
stimulus package to bring .new jobs
and industry to Michigan, and said
the state should strongly consider
postponing income tax and single-
business tax cuts so that essential
services will not suffer.
Of interest to Jewish voters,
Dr. Schwarz said he
would invest in State of
Israel Bonds if fiscally
responsible.
"The state should
make those invest-
ments that are prudent
for the state, period,"
he said. "The state
should not be making
political statements
with its investments."
