Adat Shalom Forum
Focuses On Healing
Adat Shalom Synagogue will host an
interactive discussion on healing con-
versations at 7:30 a.m. Monday, June
24, featuring Nance Guilmartin, an
Emmy award-winning broadcaster,
national business consultant, com-
munity service advocate and author.
At Adat Shalom's second annual
Fred Benderoff Memorial Lecture on
Healing, Guilmartin will guide the
audience through an experience that
allows them to practice new skills in
offering or asking for a healing con-
versation. She'll draw upon her cor-
porate leadership training programs
and her experiences in teaching "The
Art of Communication: How to
Listen and Be Heard in Today's
World" at Tufts
University in
Medford, Mass.
Dr. Benderoff, a
member of Adat
Shalom since the
1950s, was a fami-
ly physician
known for his
Nance
devotion to his
Guilmartin
patients and his
warm bedside
manner. After
being diagnosed
with cancer, he
accepted an invita-
tion in 1999 to
attend one of Adat
Shalom
Synagogue's newly Dr. Fred
Benderoff
conceived healing
services.
To memorialize
Dr. Benderoff, an annual healing lec-
ture program seemed appropriate.
His wife, Ann, his children, Gayle
and Sy Israel, Paula and Howard
Donsky, Ilene and Bruce Kovan,
Bruce and Carol Benderoff and Brian
Benderoff, as well as his 12 grand-
children, hope the June 24 lecture
continues the tradition of raising the
consciousness of spiritual healing and
continues the legacy of Dr.
Benderoff, a healer in his personal
and professional life.
Diane Howitt and Susie Graham,
co-chairs of Adat Shalom's Caring
Community, are chairing the free
open event. An afterglow and book
signing will follow the program.
