Pennsylvania Ave., Lansing MI www.lexusoflansing.com THANK YOU FOR YOUR BUSINESS DETROIT JEWISH NEWS 'TN The Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network, in con- junction with Jewish Family Service of Metropolitan Detroit's Hospice Volunteer Program, has been asked to serve as a national model for "spark: Partnership for Service." This new national non-profit organization promotes service and volunteerism as core Jewish values. The Jewish Federation, Michigan Board of Rabbis and Jewish Family Service created the Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network to guide terminally ill persons and their families. JFS provides the net- work with a specially trained cadre of dedicated Jewish volun- teers. These caring individuals complement the professional medical care rendered by hos- pice providers and extend the Jewish presence. "spark: Partnership for Service" works in collaboration with existing Jewish institutions and individuals developing resources and programming to enhance and expand high quali- ty Jewish service programs and Jewish service learning. It is part of a growing national engage- ment and dialogue about service and volunteering, the role those values play in the development of civil society, meeting commu- nity needs and helping Americans find meaning and connection. It is also part of a growing community of Jews committed to renewing under- standing of volunteerism as an expression of a Jewish value sys- tem and a means of connecting with Judaism. Numerous individual syna- gogues, Jewish schools and agencies have innovative volun- teer driven service projects. All too often, these projects are unaware of other similar proj- ects. "spark" is creating a num- ber of resource guides for volun- teer projects.
