Community HMC Hosts Fall Conference The West Bloomfield-based Holocaust Memorial Center will hold its first International Conference on Altruism this fall. A group of scholars, making up the HMC Academic Advisory Committee, has been meeting to plan the Oct. 12 13' event. It will be open to the public at no charge. Papers on Dr. Guy Stern altruism will be presented. The main speakers will include Professor Sander Gilman of the University of Chicago; Professor Elazar Barkan of Claremont, Calif., Graduate University and Dr. Eva Fogelman, author, social psycholo- gist and psychotherapist. Academicians at the conference will help the HMC establish criteria and parameters for bestowing an annual righteousness award, which will be given under the auspices of the HMC's forthcoming International Institute of the Righteous. The institute, and a iuscum of Euro , be additions to the Holocaust Memorial Center when it relocates to Farmington Hills. Chairing the HMC Academic Advisory Committee is Wayne State University distinguished professor of Germanic studies Dr. Guy Stern, also a professor of comparative liter- ature. He serves on the board of directors of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. Joining Dr. Stern on the commit- tee are Dr. Todd Endelman, profes- sor of history, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; Dr. Judy Endelman, director of historical resources, Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village, Dearborn; Dr. Bernard Goldman, professor of art history emeritus, WSU, Detroit; Norma W.
