Jerusalem/JTA — At least nine people
were wounded when a suicide bomber
struck outside a restaurant in the
Israeli coastal city of Herzliya.
Two of the injured, including a little
girl, were in serious condition; a 15-year-
old girl subsequently died. The only other
fatality was the bomber. Police launched a
search for the person who drove the
bomber to the fast-food restaurant.

Police Warn
Jewish Group
New York/JTA — New York's police
commissioner issued a warning after a
Jewish group said it wanted to launch
armed patrols in Jewish sections of
Brooklyn. The police "department will
not tolerate anyone brandishing
weapons under the guise of protecting
others," Ray Kelly said Monday.
Kelly issued the warning after the lit-
tle-known Jewish Defense Group said it
plans to start patrolling the Jewish
neighborhoods armed with shotguns
and other weapons. The group said it
was taking the step after a suspected ter-
rorist jailed in Iraq said in a TV inter-
view aired last week that the terrorists
who carried out the 1993 World Trade
Center bombing originally wanted to
target the Brooklyn neighborhoods.
Palestinians Seek
Israel's Destruction
Jerusalem/JTA — A majority of
Palestinians hope the intifada will lead
to the destruction of Israel, according
to a new poll.
The poll by the Jerusalem Media and
Communication Center found that 51
percent of those surveyed say the
Palestinians' goal in the conflict should
be to "liberate all of historic Palestine."
Khader Abusway, the center's research
coordinator, said Palestinian resentment
against Israel had deepened since Israel's
large-scale military offensive in the
West Bank in April and May.
