OSCAR HERTZ, 83, of West Bloomfield and Scottsdale, Ariz., died June 1. He was a graduate of Northern High School in Detroit and of Wayne State University, where he studied accounting. Mr. Hertz was the owner of Plymouth Furniture Company in Detroit and Plymouth for many years and a member of the National Association of Retail Furniture Dealers. Long active in Jewish com- munity affairs, he was a member of the Jewish Community Council board for 16 years, the Jewish Welfare Federation and the National Jewish Community Relations Advisory Council. He was also a member of the board of Plymouth Child and Family Services and an avid tennis player and traveler. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Beatrice; daughters and sons-in-law, Judie and Jerry Lax of Ann Arbor, Karen and Bill Winshall of West Bloomfield; sisters, Ida Snider of Southfield, Lillian Jaffe of Southfield; grandchildren, Jonathan (Jennifer Benjamin) Lax, Andrew Lax, Brian Winshall and Dana Winshall.
