hey came to rub elbows with the likes of Frank Lloyd Wright, Herman
Miller, Heywood Wakefield and the Stickleys. All the great names in mod-
ern design were represented at the gala preview of The Michigan
Modernism Exposition to benefit MoNA — The Museum of New Art.
The Southfield Municipal Complex came alive with 20th-century fun and flair,
as merchants filled their booths with Lava lamps, Peter Max art, '50s dinette sets
and vintage clothing and jewelry. Serious collectors swooned over the finest exam-
ples of Art Deco, Art Nouveau, Arts & Crafts, Streamline, Prairie School, Art
Moderne and Industrial design — the best of the '40s, '50s, and '60s.
The Twistin' Tarantulas gave the joint its jive, and hors d'oeuvres from
Amaryllis provided sustenance for the high-energy evening.
