So imagine planning a huge party like this. Who would accept such a challenge? David Morrison of Huntington Woods and Malke Torgow of Oak Park. With five children of her own, Mrs. Torgow has coordinated quite a few birthday parties already. Maybe that's how she can stay so calm just days before the JCC Birthday Bash. A JCC board member, Mrs. Torgow said she's been having fun working with the Neighborhood Project and JCC vol- unteers. "We did a Safety Fair together, and we all did a few kosher food fairs over the years," she said. "We've always worked well as partners." Planning for the event began months ago, Mrs. Torgow said. "We were thinking about this long before Sept. 11," she said. And while initially the event was to focus solely on celebrating, the terrorist attack changed all that. "We felt that to just have a simple party, without bringing in a mitzvah component, and without talking about Israel, would seem so frivolous," she said. So, in addition to raising funds for the Israel Emergency Campaign, coordina- tors are asking everyone who comes to bring a new, unwrapped toy or children's book to be donated to A Small Miracle. (Those who forget to bring a gift may donate cash instead.) A Small Miracle provides gifts to financially challenged Jewish families at Chanukah or for spe- cial events, such as a bar- or bat-mitzvah celebration or birthday. "This will be an incredible event, arid we look forward to sharing it with the entire community," Sharon Hart said. ❑ f Parking " The Birthday Bash and Carnival is at the JCC's Jimmy Prentis Morris Building, 15110 W. 10 Mile Road, between Greenfield and Coolidge, in Oak Park, but expect its lots to fill up quickly. Shuttle services for the event will be available in these Oak Park locations: • Temple Emanu-El, 14450 W 10 Mile Road • Beth Jacob School, 14390 W. 10 Mile Road • Norup Middle School, 14450 Manhattan • Young Israel of Oak Park, 15140 W. 10 Mile Road
