There is no question that suicide-homi-
cide bombers are killing and maiming .
innocent bystanders [including] women,
children and infants ("Suicide Blast Kills
At Least 2," May 24, page 24).
The bombings are planned .and exe-
cuted by cruel people who take enjoy-
ment in the murder of innocents. This is
not a war of independence, but the
desire to satisfy the sadism from which
these people suffer. This is a crime
against humanity and if not contained
aggressively, will be repeated again and
again, hopefully not close to your home.

A dental hygienist by profession, I now
find myself promoting Conservative
Judaism to women age 45 and younger
as Women's League for Conservative
Judaism Michigan Branch Z'havah
chair. Z'havah, WLCJ's young women's
initiative is making its way across the
country and Canada this month as
branch chairs present this new concept
at spring conferences.
The Michigan branch spring confer-
ence was held on May 5 at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek West
Bloomfield, B'nai Israel Center. The
conference, "Beyond the Fringes — the
Ties That Bind Us," brought together
representatives from 10 Conservative sis-
terhoods in Michigan ("Women's
League Installs Board," April 19, page
39).
A full day of programming was
planned by chair Carol Weintraub
Fogel; the conference committee includ-
ed a women's Shacharit service, Torah
study, workshops and installation of offi-
cers.
Rabbi Lauren Berkun, one of our
community's new, young, dynamic rab-
bis, led the Torah study sessions. Jill
Davidson Sklar enlightened us about
our community projects that welcome
Jews by Choice. We learned about-
Shavuot with Robin Axelrod and
received new ideas for family celebra-
tions. Our consultant, Evelyn Seelig,
past international president of WLCJ
and president of MERCAZ USA,
addressed us at dinner.
My job was to facilitate a Z'havah
workshop titled "Weaving Our Heritage
into Contemporary Lives." I was hon-
ored to present the concept Z'havah to
an excited group of young women from
various Conservative sisterhoods.

He writes that he is happy about con-
servative support for Israel, but that's as
far as it goes. If there is something in the
conservative philosophy that leads it to
support Israel and something in the lib-
eral philosophy that leads it to condemn
Israel, maybe Jews ought to. investigate
and see why.
Rosenblatt writes, "Ever given any
thought, however fleeting, to voting for
Alan Keyes, the vigorously pro-Israel Fox
TV host, the next time he runs for presi-
dent?"
As someone who voted for him the
last time he ran for president in the
Michigan primary, I would like to raise a
few points. It is very important to note
that the current wave of anti-Semitism
sweeping the world is coming from the
left, not from the right. I feel that liber-
alism has been hijacked by the radical
left and is not the liberalism I grew up
with.
Many of the Jewish ideals and morals
have been forsaken by the liberals. I
loosely quote from Dennis Prager's book
Think A Second Time.. "For many gener-

far enough.

Janet Tobin, international WLCJ pres-
ident, conceived of the idea for Z'havah.
The mission of Z'havah is "to promote
and develop future leaders by assisting
sisterhoods to attract and involve
younger women by bringing them
together and enabling them to create a
variety of activities directed at their .
interests."
I am proud to be a part of WLCJ. As
past president of Adat Shalom
Sisterhood, I have been able to partici-
pate at the branch and international
level and understand the structure of this
important organization.
Seeing women of all ages coming
together on Sunday to share and net-
work was inspirational. May our move-
ment and all of our Jewish organizations
continue to go from strength to
strength.
