At the same time, he took part in a
music program through the Hebrew
Union College School of Sacred
Music, which trained him to sing for
Reform congregations' High Holiday
services. At HUC, he found the
world of cantorial singing to be his
true passion. He completed courses
through the music school and was
assigned to a congregation in Akron.
"Then, it seemed to fit, being a

As Cantor Rose was finding his call-
ing, Eunice Tracey and her sister,
Eudice, were touring the U.S. as a
singing act, the Tracey Twins. Euni
and. Eudi played for theater audi-
ences, in clubs, on the radio and on
televisiOn. The pair released a number
of recordings, including a chart
climber entitled, "You Belong to
Me."
Soon after leaving the road and
returning to her hometown of
Cleveland, Euni Tracey was fixed up
with Norman Rose. Soon after, they
were married. Cantor Rose has one
daughter, Lauren Ryan, from his first
marriage, and another daughter,
Heidi Barnett, with Euni Rose.
Euni Rose is known in the civic
community as a leader for the reform
of the Southfield Public Library. She
is a past president and member of the
library's council. Additionally, she
works as a librarian and teaches
music and dance at Detroit's
Cornerstone School. She serves
Temple Ernanu-E1 as a Sunday school
teacher. For 22 years, she also led the
congregation's youth choir.
Since coming to the Oak Park
congregation, Cantor Rose has
tutored more than 500 students for
bar or bat mitzvah. His warm humor
has put many a nervous child at ease.
"He brings a warm, friendly voice to
our worship services," said Rabbi
Joseph Klein. "The other significant
quality is the warmth of his personality
and his ability to work with students
in an engaging-manner. He is a won-
derful teacher and a super11,cantor."
Gordon said that Cantor Rose has
consistently elevated the Shabbat
services' spirituality with his rich
voice. "What I really enjoy is at the
conclusion of the service when he
sings the Aleinu. We will be standing
by the Ark and he will be chanting
and we will be looking at the Torah,"
Gordon said. "It is a great feeling of
spirituality for me." ❑
