Israel Panel Predicts
A Worse Water Crisis

Jerusalem/JTA — An Israeli panel rec-
ommended declaring a state of water
emergency for the next two years. The
declaration would be part of measures
to offset what experts predict will be a
worsening water shortage.
The recommendations were included
in a 300-page-report dealing with
Israel's water crisis. Other recommen-
dations included moving responsibility
for the nation's water to the Prime
Minister's Office and establishing an
independent water authority.

Jews, Christians
Unite For Israel

New York/JTA — An interfaith coali-
tion is mobilizing Christian support
for Israel.
. Ralph Reed, a leading Christian
activist, and Rabbi Yechiel Eckstein,
president of the International
Fellowship for Christians and Jews,
launched the "Stand for Israel" cam-
paign. As part of the program, churches
will be asked to set aside the Sunday
that coincides with Rosh Hashanah this
year as a day of prayer for Israel.
In addition, Christian leaders will
meet with Israeli representatives in
Washington to learn how to lobby effec-
tively for the Jewish state.

Jewish Sites
Put On Alert

Jerusalem/JTA — There is an increased
risk that Jewish sites around the world
will be targeted by terrorists, according
to Israel's Mossad intelligence service.
Mossad changed its assessment of
the threat following the recent attack
on a synagogue in Tunisia, the head of
the agency's research department on
anti-Semitism disclosed in a rare pub-
lic lecture.
The official said information gath-
ered from terrorists arrested in Europe
revealed that they had planned to
attack other Jewish targets as well, the
Israeli daily Hdaretz reported. The
Mossad has termed the threat, which
originates from extremist Islamic ele-
ments, as "world jihad."
