A new crop of Jewish profession-
als has graduated from the Sol
Drachler Program in Jewish
Communal Leadership at the
University of Michigan. Drachler
is a former executive director of
the Jewish Federation of
Metropolitan Detroit (JFMD).
Members of the Class of 2002,
who graduated over the April 27-
28 weekend, are Lauren Dworkin,
Southfield; Tami U. Elliott, Apple
Valley, Minn.; Ian M. Kaner,
Duluth, Minn.; Hadassah Max,
Liverpool, England; Abigail R.S.
Schochet, East Lansing; Jodi S.
Sperling, Williamsville, N.Y.; Julie
I. TelRav, Scotch Plains, N.J.; and
Hannah B. Widzer, Cleveland.
The Drachler graduates were-
awarded a Master of Social Work
degree, along with a Certificate in
Judaic Studies and Jewish
Communal Service, which are
jointly conferred by the U-M
School of Social Work and the
Frankel Center for Judaic Studies.
In keeping with tradition, the
graduates presented tke Award for
Excellence in Jewish Communal
Service to two local working
Jewish professionals. The hon-
orees, both Drachler Program
alumni, are Anya Abramzon,
director of the Washtenaw
County Jewish Family Service,
and David Contorer, director of
donor development at JFMD.
Previous recipients of the annu-

Jewish Home and Aging Services;
Leslee Magidson, director, Jewish
Community Center; Robin
Axelrod, director, Sol Drachler
Program in Jewish Communal
Leadership; Jordana Weiss, pre-
school and kindergarten director,
Adat Shalom Synagogue; and
Harlene Appelman, director,
Federation's Alliance for Jewish
Education, JFMD.
Drachler graduates serve the
Jewish community locally, nation-
ally and also abroad. Alumni cur-
rently working in the Detroit
Jewish community include Kari
Alterman, director, Community
Outreach and Education, JFMD;
Andrew Echt, director,
Federation's Annual Campaign,
JFMD; Lisa Gilan, planning asso-
ciate, JFMD; Jeff Levin, director,
Washtenaw County Jewish
Federation; Chanan Posner, chap-
lain, Fleischman
Residence/Blumberg Plaza;
Jennifer Rube, geriatric social
worker, Teitel Jewish Apartments;
Miry Serlin, religious school edu-
cator, Congregation Shaarey
Zedek; Miriam Starkman, execu-
tive director, Hillel Foundation of
Metro Detroit; and Julie
Zuckerman, associate, Israel and
Overseas, JFMD.
Recent Drachler graduate Abby
Schochet began work as program
coordinator at the Ann Arbor
Jewish Family Service in May.
