Tel Aviv/JTA — At least two Israelis
were killed Wednesday in a suicide
bombing in the town of Rishon le-Zion.
At least 24 were injured in the blast,
at 9:15 p.m. on Rothchild Street. Police
looked for a car thought to have
dropped off the bomber a short time
before the blast, Israel Radio reported:
Earlier this month, a suicide bomber
struck at a pool hall in the town, killing
15 people and injuring more than 60.
Kosher Law
Unconstitutional
New YorldJTA — A U.S. court
upheld an earlier ruling that New York
state's kosher law is unconstitutional.
The court said the law defines
kosher solely by using the definition of
Orthodox Judaism, while prohibiting
other branches of Judaism from using
the kosher label in a way consistent
with their requirements. The court also
said the law improperly takes sides in a
religious matter and requires the state
to take an official position on religious
doctrine. The fervently Orthodox
Agudath Israel of America blasted the
ruling, calling it a "judicial body-blow
to the unsuspecting consumer."

Philadelphia, won the Democratic pri-
mary and will face Attorney General
Mike Fisher in the. November election.
Another Jewish candidate, Bev Stein,
lost the' Democratic primary in
Oregon to Ted Kulongoski. Five other
Jewish candidates are vying for gover-
norships around the country.

the International Olympic Committee
rejected a call from Iran to bar Isael
-from the Olympic movement.

when the IOC opened its general
assembly in the predominantly Muslim

from Iran and other Arab states, Israeli

Suicide Bomber
Killed Near Jenin
Jenin/JTA — A Palestinian suicide
bomber died Wednesday near Jenin.
Israeli border police opened fire after a
bomb went off near a patrol in the
West Bank.
During the exchange, a second
explosion occurred. The body of the
terrorist was discovered later. The army
later said his bombs apparently went
off prematurely. In another incident,
soldiers arrested a suspected suicide
bomber in Tulkarm on Tuesday night,
Israel Radio reported.
Bush Again
Blasts Arafat
Washington/JTA — Yasser Arafat has
let the Palestinian people down, leav-
ing them "poor and isolated and frus-
trated," President Bush said.
Bush reiterated themes from a
speech last month in which he said the
Palestinian Authority leader had failed
his people. "He's had a chance to lead.
And by failing to lead, he has really let
the Palestinians down," Bush said.
U.S. Issues
Terror Report
New York/JTA — The U.S. State
Department says it cannot judge
whether senior Palestinian Authority
officials are involved in terrorism.
The annual Patterns of Global
Terrorism report says "street-level
membership of Fatah," Palestinian
Authority leader Yasser Arafat's politi-
cal party, have participated in terrorist
attacks, but the report makes no men-
tion of senior Palestinian leaders.
The report, released Tuesday, also
says Israel's destruction of the
Palestinian security infrastructure
has contributed to the Palestinian
Authority's.ineffectiveness in curbing
violence. The report lists seven
countries that are called state spon-
sors of terrorism: Cuba, Iran, Iraq,
Libya, North Korea, Sudan and
Syria. The list remained unchanged
for the eighth year running. Iran
once again is described in the report -
as "the most active state sponsor of
terrorism."
