where members can feel comfortable
nestling into a sofa or arm chair. And
because so many people will be using
the country club, they chose durable
items and fabrics that would wear well
and stay clean.
Morganroth and his associate Susan
Edwards also designed the new public
Twin Lakes Country Club in Rochester,
which was just completed this month.
"Twin Lakes was looking to do a first-
class job," says Morganroth.
"They wanted someone to be
involved with the total interior design
project, from construction to finish."
Morganroth and Edwards worked
with contractors, and designed the inte-
rior of the club completely. Along with
Kevin Walby of Primeway Industries
(he also worked with Morganroth on
Wabeek), who fabricated all of the mill-
work, cabinetry, fixtures, pro shop and
lockers, they created the fixtures, bar,
wainscoting, furnishings, wallpaper, car-
peting and window treatments for Twin
Lakes. Lots of dark woods and rich
tones of taupe, hunter green, brown
and tan were used to create an elegant
and traditional environment.
Morganroth and Edwards have used
fabrics with lots of damask patterns.
soft mini-and maxi-patterns in the same
coloration, beautiful borders and clean
lines to create a classic, comfortable
place for members to enjoy
The biggest difference Morganroth
sees in designing for a country club
versus an individual client's home is
"it is a public building, and you must
therefore design for those uses the
best you can," he says. For example,
a home bar or countertop that does
not get constant use can be of marble
or wood, but in a country club,
Morganroth will only use granite
because it will not stain, chip (easily),
and is more durable. Carpeting is
chosen in patterns and colors that
will not show as much dirt. Fabrics
that are used must hide dirt and
staining, and wear well. Whenever
Morganroth needs a solid fabric, he
opts for leather, such as for the chairs
in Twin Lakes' grillroom, because it is
durable and wipes clean.
Whether helping a homeowner or a
country club design their interior,
Morganroth sees his job as "guiding
the client to do a proper job, profes-
sionally and in good taste."
