West Bloomfield
Profession: OB/GYN specialist
Handicap: 13
Favorite course: The Legend, at
Shanty Creek in Bellaire
Fantasy: "To play the Masters course
at Augusta, and I will, definitely."
Golfer: Fred Yaffe: "60something," of
Bloomfield Hills
Profession: Advertising executive
Handicap 15
Favorite course: Franklin Hills
Fantasy: "I've already lived it. Two
years ago I took my son, Jimmy, to
Scotland." The Yaffes started in the
north at the exclusive Andrew
Carnegie course (very windy), and
ended in southern Scotland at St.
Andrews where the game began. They
rented a van. with another father/son
team and after 18 holes would climb
into the van to relax while their driver
sped them on to the next course.
"The Carnegie Club is the most
fabulous place in Scotland," recalls
Yaffe. "There were only about 16
guests. We came down to dinner to
find Jack Nicholson and Michael
Douglas there, too."
Another highlight was St.Andrews
where Jimmy was one under par after
the first nine. "I was so nervous for him
I shot a 51 on the front nine," say Fred.
"Then a 38 on the back." 0
