the latest Palestinian
intifada (uprising) began in
September 2000, Detroit Jewry
has taken part in a solidarity
mission to Israel, the embattled
Jewish homeland. The 47 local
participants on this week's Jewish
Federation of Metropolitan Detroit-
sponsored sojourn were scheduled to
return home on Friday, May 24.
Special writer Don Cohen repre-
sented the Jewish News on the trip;
the first of his reports from Israel
begins on page 16.
In the wake of Wednesday's suicide
bombing in Rishon le-Zion, the
second there in two weeks, it's clear
there's no end in sight to the intifa-
da, which has claimed more than
1,000 lives on both sides.
This Shabbat, please pray for
Israel — again.
