great-grandparents are Fannie and Sol
Wainer, Robert Golden and Nathan
Oleshanky. Aria Rose is named in lov-
ing memory of her great-grandmoth-
ers Frances Golden and Alice Rosen.
Bar/Bat Mitzvah
Brett Matthew Alpiner was called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Southfield on May
4. He is the son of
Neal and Karen
Alpiner and broth-
er of Sean, Kallie,
Brendan and
Kyra. Sharing in
Brett's simchah
were honored
grandparents
Seymour and June Rubenstein and
Irene Alpiner. Brett is also the grand-
son of the late Sol Alpiner.
Brett attends Berkshire Middle
School in Birmingham and Camp
Ramah in Canada. His interests
include science, math, drawing and
sports. Brett's mitzvah experiences
have included Meals on Wheels, visit-
ing the Sarah Fisher-Vincent Home in
Farmington Hills, Farmington Hills-
based JARC's Empty Bowls project,
the Great Purim Parcel Project, donat-
ing to the Israel Defense Forces and
celebrating his bar mitzvah at the
Fleischman Residence in West
Bloomfield, He recently enjoyed going
with his parents to the Washington,
D.C., rally in support of the State of
Israel.
Jesse Samuel Cherniak will become a
bar mitzvah on Saturday, May 18, at
Temple Emanu-El. He is the son of
Stephanie and Stephen Cherniak and
brother of Shara. Jesse's grandparents
Miriam and Martin Satz and Walter
and Margaret Cherniak share in this
joyous occasion with him.
Jesse is a sev-
enth-grade honor
student at O.E.
Dunckel Middle
School in
Farmington Hills.
At school, he
enjoys participat-
ing in forensics.
He plays the cor-
net for the Dunckel Wildcat cadet
and jazz bands as well. Other hobbies
include acting, skiing, computers and
riding roller coasters. For his mitzvah
project, Jesse really enjoyed working
with kindergarten-age students at
Safety Town during Temple Emanu-
El's summer camp program.

rapport with the teens, and my son had an absolutely fantastic time.
We spent a year planning this party, but you're the one who
created something we will remember always!

Clay Tyler Davis will read from the
Torah on the occasion of his bar mitz-
vah at Temple
Israel on Friday,
May 17. He is the
son of Shelley and
Daniel Davis and
brother of Kyle.
His grandparents
are Elaine Davis
and Sam Hoffman.
He is also the
grandson of the
late Alex Davis and Charlotte
Hoffman.
Attending West Bloomfield's
Orchard Lake Middle School, Clay
loves ice hockey and in-line skating,
football and working on the comput-
er. Building a sukkah for Farmington
Hills-based JARC was his most mean-
ingful mitzvah project.
Zachary Aaron Dovitz, son of Sally
and Douglas Dovitz, will celebrate his
bar mitzvah on
Saturday, May 18,
at Temple Israel.
He is the grand-
child of Annette
Dovitz. He is also
the grandchild of
the late Joseph
Dovitz, Lola
Seiderman and
Jacob Seiderman.
Attending Walnut Creek Middle
School in Walled Lake, Zachary likes
video games and sports. For one of his
mitzvah projects, he volunteered to
work at an assisted living facility.
Cayla Rose Lusky will be called to the
Torah as a bat mitzvah on Saturday,
May 18, at Congregation Beth
Shalom. Sharing in this special occa-
sion will be her parents, Debbie and
