z' EW 1SH ACADEMY 7 r..... ,,„ Q 7-: of Metropolitan Detroit HMC Trains New Docents Please join the Jewish Academy of Metropolitan Detroit for an evening honoring donors to the Jewish Education Trust of the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit. The Holocaust Memorial Center will begin its new docent training session 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, with an orientation. The center is at 6602 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield. Docents will learn to guide groups on walkincr tours through the b HMC, explain the exhibits and interpret the history and lessons of the Holocaust. Coordinating the training program will be master • docent Judy Miller, an HMC board member and retired teacher. Training sessions can be tailored to meet participants' needs and per- sonal schedules. Docent candidates may complete the training at their own pace. Once they have finished the program, they may choose the day or days on which they would like to serve. Pre-registration is necessary. Samantha Kalish of Farmington Hills was awarded third prize for the Three Dimesional Art Award in the 2002 high - school student art competition, sponsored by the Farmington Area Arts Commission. She is an 11th-grade Samantha student at North Kalish Farmington High School in Farmington Hills. (Adam) Rafi Martina, 17, of Huntington Woods, a junior at Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, took home top honors in the 2002 Michigan History Day competition held in Lansing. Having won both his school and regional competition, Martina represented the 7th district, competing with students from across Michigan for state hon- ors. Categorically, Martina won over- all Best Entry for Michigan History and Best Entry for Michigan History Prior to 1865.
