Brian Matthew Abel will be called to
the Torah as a bar mitzvah at Temple
Beth El on Saturday, May 11. He is the
son of Lori and Bruce Abel and brother
of Amy Nicole Abel.
Thrilled grandpar-
ents are Judith and
Norman Sommers
and Phyllis and
Martin Abel.
Brian is an honor
student at Eaton
Academy in
Birmingham. His
interests include soc-
cer, basketball, baseball, hockey, water-
skiing, knee-boarding, guitar, snowmo-
bilirig and building with Legos. Brian
worked in the kitchen at the Coalition
On Temporary Shelter in Detroit on a
regular basis to fulfill his mitzvah proj-
ects. He is happy to be sharing the day
with his sister Amy. He is also looking
forward to a second bar mitzvah and
reading from his grandparents' Torah
when the synagogue, the Shul at the
Lubavitch Campus of Living Judaism, is
completed this summer.

Melanie Rose August, daughter of Julie
and Larry August and sister of Allison,
will celebrate her bat mitzvah at Temple
Israel on Saturday,
May 11. Her proud
grandparents are
Doris and Jim
August and Gloria
and Mike
Handelsman. Her
excited great-grand-
mother is Helen
August.
Melanie attends
Cranbrook-Kingswood Middle School
in Bloomfield Hills, where she is on the
dean's list and the student leadership
committee. Her hobbies include kick-
boxing, water-skiing, playing travel soc-
cer and basketball and attending Camp
Walden in Cheboygan. As one of her
mitzvah projects, she found it meaning-
ful to read to a blind resident at the
Jewish Federation Apartments in West
Bloomfield.

Natalie Mara Blum will be called to
the Torah as a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, May 11, at Adat Shalom
Synagogue. She is the daughter of
Tracye and Robert Blum and sister of
Madeleine, Cameron and Weston.
Proud grandparents are Joyce and
George Blum, Geri and Mike Green
and Marilyn and Glenn Valasco.
Natalie's great-grandparents are Marion
and Bill Vincent.
Natalie is an honor student at
Birmingham Covington School. She

enjoys reading,
playing basketball
and attending
horseback-riding
summer camp at
Black River Farm
and Ranch in
Croswell, Mich.
Natalie's mitzvah
projects included
assisting at Adat Shalom nursery
school summer day camp, making
deliveries for Yad Ezra in Berkley and
serving meals to the homeless.

Elizabeth Jo Bunin of Huntington
Woods will celebrate her bat mitzvah at
Temple Emanu-El on Saturday, May 11.
She is the daughter
of Linda Solomon
and Carl Bunin and
sister of Emma. Her
proud grandparents
are Jane and Jack
Solomon; great-
grandmother is
Mary Solomon. She
is also the grand-
daughter of the late
William and Joan Bunin.
Liz is an honor student at Norup
Middle School in Oak Park. She enjoys
playing the violin, reading, figure skating
and sailing. Her favorite mitzvah project
was volunteering at Temple Emanu-El's
summer day camp.

Kayla Nicole Canvasser will be called to
the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Saturday,
May 11, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek
Southfield. She is
the daughter of
Marci and Charles
Canvasser and the
sister of Alana
Debra. Proud grand-
mothers are Natalie
Canvasser and
Geraldine Margolis;
great-grandmother is
Fay Margolis. Kayla
is also the granddaughter of the late
Donald Canvasser and the late Dr. Jerry
Margolis.
Kayla attends Abbott Middle School
in West Bloomfield, where she is an
honor student. She enjoys dancing, act-
ing and summers at Camp Walden in
Cheboygan. Her most meaningful mitz-
vah project was working with preschool-
ers at Congregation Shaarey Zedek Beth
Hayeled summer camp.

Jessica Lauren Gold, daughter of Ronna
and Stuart Gold and sister of Melissa,
read from the Torah on the occasion of
her bat mitzvah Friday, May 3, at
Temple Israel. She is the grandchild of

Stevens and Beverly
Spitz and the late
Sidney Spitz and the
late Norman Gold.
Jessica attends
Tamarack Camps
and enjoys drama,
dance and skiing.
She is an honor stu-
dent at Orchard Lake Middle School in •
West Bloomfield. Her most meaningful
mitzvah project was entertaining seniors
at the Fleischman Residence in West
Bloomfield.

Marden "Namic" Kerimov will be
called to the Torah as a bar mitzvah on
Saturday, May 11, at Congregation Beth
Shalom. He is the son of Irina and
Jeffrey Lindblom
and Igor Kerimov
and the grandson of
Raisa Cherkasova
and the late Savi
Khananayev.
Namic is in the
seventh grade at
Farmington East
Middle School,
where he excels in
science and math. He has a passion for
cars and hopes to become a professional
car designer. In the winter, Namic loves
to go snowboarding. He regularly
attends Tamarack Camps in the sum-
mer. Additionally, he has volunteered at
local senior centers.

Chelsea Elizabeth Landau will be
called to the Torah as a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, May 11, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek Southfield. She is the
daughter of Denise and Marc Landau
of Farmington Hills
and sister of Jordan
and Ian. Proud
grandparents are
Beverly Hellmer of
Berkley and Alene
and Graham
Landau of Franklin.
Chelsea is a sev-
enth-grade honor
student at Warner
Middle School in Farmington Hills.
Her interests include swimming, div-
ing, running track, playing the flute in
the school band, computers and enjoy-
ing time with family and friends. She
found several mitzvah projects mean-
ingful, including volunteering at Yad
Ezra in Berkley, serving dinner at the
Ronald McDonald House, delivering
Purim baskets and raising money for
the American Institute for Cancer
Research.

Rachel Shira Lebovic will be called to
the Torah as a bat mitzvah on Saturday,
May 11, at Adat Shalom Synagogue.
She is the daughter of Diane and Joey
Lebovic and sister of Sara. Proud grand-
parents are June and Aaron Coleman
and Irene and David
Lebovic.
An honor student
at Warner Middle
School in
Farmington Hills,
Rachel enjoys soccer,
piano, trombone,
tap dancing and
summers at
Tamarack Camps. Her favorite mitzvah
project for the last five years has been
helping to house the homeless at Adat
Shalom.

The Lesser will be called to the Torah as
a bat mitzvah on Saturday, May 11, at
Temple Kol Ami. She is the daughter of
Sheryl and Jeffrey Lesser, sister of Sarah
Ann and Rachel and the granddaughter
of Adele and Harold
Samuels, Elaine
Lesser and the late
Morton Lesser.
Zoe is an honor
student at O.E.
Dunckel Middle
School in
Farmington Hills.
She enjoys dance,
photography, read-
ing, tennis, computers and attending
Tamarack Camps and Camp Michigania
every summer. Zoe's mitzvah projects
included volunteering at Yad Ezra in
Berkley and at the Fleischman Residence
in West Bloomfield.

Kevin Michael Lipson, son of Debbie
and Barry Lipson, will be called to the
Torah on the occasion of his bar mitzvah
at Havda/ah services Saturday, May 11,
at Temple Israel. His brothers Mark and
Brian, and proud
grandparents Sylvia
and Sam Deutsch
and Honora Lipson,
will share in the sim-
chah. He is also the
grandson of the late
Alex Lipson.
Kevin attends
Orchard Lake
Middle School in
West Bloomfield. He enjoys ice hockey,
tennis, golf, in-line hockey and going to
camp. His most significant mitzvah
project involved working at a fund-raiser
for surgical research at Children's
Hospital in Detroit.
