Happy Birthday

Formal dinner-dance marks 75 years
of the Jewish Community Center.

N

early 250 people,
including past presi-
dents, donors and
community leaders,
enjoyed an evening of music,
dancing and reminiscing at the
Jewish Community Center's 75th
anniversary celebration April 14
at the West Bloomfield JCC.
Co-chair Florine Mark Ross
opened the celebration and intro-
duced special guests. Ronald B.
Rich, also a co-chair, recalled his
family's long connection to the
JCC. He thanked co-chairs Linda
Lee and Douglas Bloom, both
JCC past presidents, and the
anniversary committee.
Bringing greetings on behalf of
the Jewish Federation and the
United Jewish Foundation of
Metropolitan Detroit, Lawrence
Jackier, Federation president, said
the celebration "was a particalarly
meaningful evening for me," espe-
cially in light of current hostilities
in Israel. "We fight back
with evenings like this," he
said.
Virgil H. Carr, president
and CEO of United Way
Community Services of
Metropolitan Detroit,
expressed his gratitude for
the partnership between the
JCC and the local United
Way affiliate.
He was followed by JCC
President Sharon Hart, who
told the crowd, "I have the
best job in the community — to
be president of the JCC in our
75th year." After recognizing the
efforts of the chairs, past presi-
dents and JCC staff, Hart sum-
marized the Center's ongoing ren-
ovations. She then presented
plaques to the past presidents in
attendance, and, in turn, the past
presidents made a presentation to
Hart.
JCC Director of Jewish
Education Rabbi Hal Greenwald
delivered the invocation and
HaMotzi, the blessing over the
