U.N. Resolution
Condemns Israel ----

New York/JTA — The United Nations
General Assembly approved an Arab-
sponsored resolution condemning Israel
just hours after a Palestinian terror attack
on a Tel Aviv suburb. The 189-member
world body condemned Israel's recent mil-
itary' operation in the West Bank and its
rejection of a U.N. fact-finding mission
into the battle at the Jenin refugee camp.
The assembly approved the resolu-
tion late Tuesday by a vote of 74-4,
with 54 countries abstaining just after
the suicide bombinc, near Tel Aviv. The
United States voted against the resolu-
tion. Israel's U.N. ambassador, Yehuda
Lancry, warned that passing the resolu-
tion "would be an offense to the mem-
ory of Israeli victims of Palestinian ter-
rorism." The Arab states rejected a pro-
posal to include a condemnation of
Palestinian terror attacks against Israel.

Presses Arafat

Washington/JTA — It is high time for
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat to decide
where he stands, the White House said.
"It is time for the Palestinian Authority
to reform. That is what the president is
watching," White House spokesman Ari
Fleischer said Wednesday. "Is the leader-
ship dedicated to violence or is their
promise in Oslo a meaningful one?"
Under the terms of the Oslo agree-
ments, the Palestinians promised to
renounce violence and terrorism, and
resolve disputes with Israel through
negotiation.

Israel Priorities

New York/JTA — The North American
federation system, United Jewish
Communities, will focus allocations
from its Israel emergency campaign on
five areas: keeping children safe, helping
hospitals and providing other medical
needs, supporting security initiatives,
funding immigration of Argentine Jews
to Israel, and providing aid to Israeli cit-
izens directly affected by terrorism.
More- than $119 million has been
raised so far by individual federations
for emergency needs. The five priori-
ties were determined after consultation
with Israeli government officials and
the UJC's overseas partners, the Jewish
Agency for Israel and the American •
Jewish. Joint Distribution Committee.
